Lawrence M. Gordon is a partner in our family law, custody, matrimonial, and divorce law firm and was born in Albany, New York on June 2, 1941. Mr. Gordon graduated from Syracuse University with a B.A. degree in 1963, and from Syracuse University Law School with a LL.B. degree in 1966 and a Juris Doctor degree in 1968. A leading family law, custody, and divorce attorney in the Albany, Schenectady, and Saratoga region and Upstate New York, he is admitted to the New York Bar and to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York. Mr. Gordon is a member of the New York State Bar Association Family Law Section, and a member of the Schenectady County Bar Association where he was formerly co-chair of the matrimonial committee and currently serves on the grievance committee. Mr. Gordon served on the Board of Directors for the Schenectady Jewish Community Center where he previously held the offices of assistant treasurer, treasurer, and vice-president. Mr. Gordon was a member of the panel of arbitrators for the American Arbitration Association, and has lectured on matrimonial and family law for various community and professional organizations throughout the region.

Eric A. Tepper is a partner in our family law, custody, matrimonial, and divorce law firm, and was born in Schenectady, New York on February 5, 1957. Mr. Tepper graduated from Hamilton College with a B.A. degree, magna cum laude, in 1979, and from George Washington University Law School with a Juris Doctor degree, with honors, in 1982. He has been selected for inclusion in "The Best Lawyers in America" for the 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 editions. Mr. Tepper also has been selected for inclusion in New York Super Lawyers for 2007, 2008 and 2009. New York Super Lawyers previously selected him as one of the top 25 lawyers from all categories and one of the top rated matrimonial lawyers in the Hudson Valley region, as published by Hudson Valley Magazine. A leading divorce, family law, and matrimonial lawyer in the Albany, Schenectady, and Saratoga region and Upstate New York, Mr. Tepper is admitted to the New York and Massachusetts Bars, and to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York and the District of Massachusetts. In 1999, Mr. Tepper was appointed by New York’s Chief Administrative Judge to serve on the Statewide Committee on Matrimonial Practice and he served on the Statewide Committee from 1999 through 2009. He was one of two representatives to the Committee on Matrimonial Practice from the Third Department. In 2009, Mr. Tepper was appointed by New York’s Chief Administrative Judge to the newly formed Unified Court System Matrimonial Practice Advisory Committee. He is one of two representatives from the Third Department to the newly formed Statewide Matrimonial Practice Advisory Committee. Mr. Tepper serves on the Executive Committee of the New York State Bar Association, Family Law Section, where he is co-chair of the Committee on Substantive Law Relating to the Family. He also served on the Family Law Section's ethics hot line. In 2004, Mr. Tepper was appointed to the Continuing Legal Education Committee for the New York State Bar Association and still serves on that committee. Mr. Tepper is a member of the Schenectady County Bar Association where he presently is co-chair of its matrimonial committee.
Mr. Tepper has lectured extensively, and written course material on family law, divorce, and matrimonial issues for judicial education and New York State Bar Association continuing legal education programs for many years throughout the Albany, Schenectady and Saratoga regions, and throughout the State of New York. Mr. Tepper has lectured on matrimonial law to Supreme Court and Family Court judges on numerous occasions at Judicial Education Seminars ("judge school"). Mr. Tepper has also lectured on matrimonial and family law to court attorneys for the New York State Unified Court System. Mr. Tepper has also lectured on matrimonial law to the Appellate Division, Third Department. Mr. Tepper has also lectured on matrimonial, divorce, custody, and family law for the Business Law Institute, Capital District Women’s Bar Association, Schenectady County Legal Professionals, Schenectady County Bar Association and for other community organizations. Mr. Tepper previously served on the Board of Directors of the Schenectady Jewish Community Center and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Center for Community Justice. Mr. Tepper is also a member of the Board of Directors of the New York Chapter of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts ("AFCC"). He previously was on the Board of Directors of the Northeast Parent and Child Society for nine years. In 2003, Mr. Tepper was appointed to the Editorial Board for the Lexis/Nexis publication on New York Matrimonial Actions, and continues to serve on the editorial board.

Eleanor M. DeCoursey is a partner in our family law, custody, matrimonial, and divorce law firm and was born in Brooklyn, New York on June 3, 1958. Ms. DeCoursey graduated from Marist College with a B.A. degree in 1980, and from New York Law School with a Juris Doctor degree in 1984. A leading family law, custody, and divorce attorney in the Albany, Schenectady and Saratoga region, and Upstate New York, Ms. DeCoursey has been admitted to the New York Bar since 1984. In 1999, Ms. DeCoursey was appointed to the Character and Fitness Admissions Committee for the Fourth Judicial District and still serves on that committee. In 2004, she was appointed to the New York State Unified Court System Family Violence Task Force where she continues to serve. Also in 2004, Ms. DeCoursey was appointed by New York’s Chief Justice to the Statewide Matrimonial Commission and served on the Matrimonial Commission from 2004 until 2006. Ms. DeCoursey is a member of the New York State Bar Association Family Law Section where she serves on the Executive Committee as co-chair of the Committee on Substantive Law Relating to the Family, and where she previously served as the Fourth Judicial District delegate and as co-chair of its Legislative Committee. Ms. DeCoursey previously served on the Schenectady County Bar Association Board of Directors where she held the offices of President and Vice President and also served as delegate to the New York State Bar Association House of Delegates. She is a member of the Capital District Women's Bar Association and previously served on the Board of Directors of The Legal Project. Ms. DeCoursey is the 2008 recipient of the Legal Project’s Stanley A. Rosen award given for litigation on behalf of victims of domestic violence. In 2009, Ms. DeCoursey received an award from the Schenectady County Bar Association and from the Schenectady County Judiciary in recognition of her pro bono services. Ms. DeCoursey currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York. Ms. DeCoursey was selected for inclusion in New York Super Lawyers as one of the top rated matrimonial attorneys in the Hudson Valley in 2009, as published by Hudson Valley Magazine.

Jennifer Powers Rutkey is a partner in our family law, custody, matrimonial, and divorce law firm and was born in Schenectady, New York on December 23, 1970. Ms. Rutkey graduated from Union College in 1992 with a B.S. degree, with honors, and from Albany Law School in 1995 with a Juris Doctor degree, cum laude. As one of our valued attorneys, Ms. Rutkey is admitted to the New York Bar and is a member of the New York State Bar Association Family Law Section and Schenectady County Bar Association. Since 2009, Ms. Rutkey has served on the Executive Committee of the New York State Bar Family Law Section as the district delegate from the Fourth Judicial District. She also serves on the Schenectady County Bar Association’s Matrimonial Committee. In 2002, she was named "Young Lawyer of the Year" by the Schenectady County Bar Association. Ms. Rutkey has lectured on divorce, custody, and family law for numerous continuing legal education programs sponsored by the New York State Bar Association Family Law Section, throughout the Capital District and New York State. Ms. Rutkey has also lectured to Supreme Court and Family Court confidential court attorneys at a training program sponsored by the New York State Office of Court Administration. Jenifer M. Wharton is a partner in our family law, custody, and divorce law firm, and was born in Schenectady, New York on October 20, 1969. Ms. Wharton graduated from the State University of New York at Albany with a B.A. degree in 1991, and from Albany Law School with a Juris Doctor degree in 1994. Ms. Wharton is admitted to the New York Bar and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York. Ms. Wharton is a member of the New York State Bar Association Family Law Section and the Schenectady County Bar Association where she presently is co-chair of the Matrimonial Committee. She is also an officer of the Schenectady County Bar Association. Ms. Wharton has lectured on matrimonial, family and divorce law for continuing legal education programs sponsored by the New York State Bar Association Family Law Section and also the Schenectady County Bar Association. She has been an attorney advisor for the Schenectady County Bar Association mock trial program and has been a judge for the Albany Law School family law moot court competition and a faculty member of mock trial camp. Ms. Wharton serves on the Board of Directors of Family and Child Service of Schenectady, Inc. where she also serves as Vice President. Ms. Wharton is a member of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals. She is also a member of the Collaborative Divorce Association of the Capital District. In addition to handling all divorce, matrimonial and family law cases, and in addition to trial work, Ms. Wharton is also trained in handling Collaborative Divorce cases.

Nicole M. Helmer is an associate in our family law, custody, and divorce law firm and was born in Massena, New York on January 3, 1978. Ms. Helmer graduated from Le Moyne College with a B.S. degree in 2000, and from Albany Law School with a Juris Doctor degree in 2003 with a concentration in family and elder law. One of our trusted family law, custody, and divorce associates, Ms. Helmer is admitted to the New York State Bar. Ms. Helmer serves on the Young Leadership Council for the Capital Region Chapter of Gilda's Club. Ms. Helmer has been a member of the Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber of Commerce Women's Business Council since 2005, and was co-chair of the "Women of Excellence" Committee from 2006 through 2008. She was also co-chair of the Women’s Business Council’s membership committee from 2008 to 2009. Ms. Helmer is a graduate of the Leadership Tech Valley Class of 2008, which is a joint initiative between the Albany Colonie-Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Schenectady Chamber of Commerce, and has served on the steering committee for the Leadership Tech Valley Program since 2008. Ms. Helmer is a member of the American Bar Association Family Law Section, New York State Bar Association Family Law Section and Schenectady County Bar Association, where she serves on the matrimonial committee. Ms. Helmer is also a member of the Capital District Women's Bar Association.
